vegun: How to Eat Vegan Cheaply slaterwashere: Eat the cheap foods: Beans and rice, peanut butter and jelly, potatoes, corn, etc. Look at the diets of people who didn’t have access to cheap meat. Try to eat like those people by basing your diet on simple plant foods. Make your own food: Convenience foods are usually more expensive than whole foods. So don’t pay other people to make your...

They had signs shaped like pigs that said “BBQ” and one of the people advertising it had a cow costume on. Why does “thou shalt not kill” only apply to the “better” species?

Two months as a vegan! =)
Easy as pie. I wish I had done this sooner, being vegetarian was not enough! And today I went grocery shopping with Chris, so he knew what to buy as a new vegan. I tried to get him to buy some veggies but he says he hates them. I’m worried about his nutrition, but I’m glad that he’s at least taking steps towards healthy and cruelty-free. He’s a manager at a Little...

– Michael Pollan -The Omnivore’s Dilemma (via ladimcbeth) I have to say, I don’t agree with this quote — and I’ve heard others say the same. I agree that death is part of life, but there is a certain brutality to killing animals for food, and eating them, that accidental death does not have. All...

Update on Cruelty Free
yummyvegan: @http://bunnyisvegan.tumblr.com/ In India and in Jainism eggs are considered non-vegetarian. Simply because of the fact that the eggs derived here are coming from chickens that roam freely and not de-fertilized eggs. As in, the eggs that you’re consuming at this point have the real possibility of becoming a chicken. So if a vegetarian eats an egg by mistake in India they know...

Focus on Cruelty Free
yummyvegan: Cruelty Free is the best way to keep vegan. In India, it’s difficult for me to always sub out milk for soy or almond. It’s easy to sub out cheese, but difficult to find cheese replacements. But it’s easy to be cruelty free in India. Most of the milk products available are fresh and buffalo or cow based, but they come from truly happy cows… as in they’re not slaughtered if they stop...

Where it tells you that it’s vegan or dairy-free right on the label. That would be ideal.

Anonymous asked: Being more pleasant to people enquiring about your diet would greatly increase your chances of winning converts, and thus saving more animals.

Yes, people are ignorant. But it's the way we're indoctrinated from birth rather than personal choice. Fight the ignorance with knowledge, not the person with rudeness, however justified you think it may be. Or just ignore it if...

Megan Harvey: Fuck it, humans didn’t work their way to the top to be friends with animals. They’re delicious, so get over it (: Megan Harvey: I hate that argument. That they’re killed inhumanely. Think of it in the Animal Kingdom. Shit is survival of the fittest out there. No matter what, animals will die and there will be reproduction of animals. So no matter what way they die,...

Honestly;
I don’t care about the environment. It’s already too far gone to do anything about it. I don’t care about my health; It’s in my genetics to be overweight no matter what I eat and how active I am. I just don’t want to be part of an industry that does this to animals. They’re the only things that I give a shit about, and if I can save 95 animals a year just by...

The usual vegan conversation...
Friend: What looks appetizing to you?
Me: Oh, I'm not having anything because it's passover and I'm vegan.
Friend: Are you just vegan for passover?
Me: No...
Friend: Oh, so do you eat cheese?
Me: No.
Friend: Do you eat eggs?
Me: Nope...
Friend: So, where do you get your protein?
Me: Oh, protein is everywhere!
Friend: Do you like Indian food?
Me: Well I don't like spice that much, but yeah.
Friend: Yeah, cause Indians have a lot of vegetarian dishes.
Me: Mhmmm.
I'M SORRY DO I QUESTION YOU EVERYTHING ABOUT YOUR DIET? IF I AM VEGAN, THEN NO, I DO NOT EAT EGGS OR CHEESE. SORRY. I THINK I ALREADY KNOW WHERE I GET MY PROTEIN. "OH, YOUR RIGHT! I DON'T HAVE A SOURCE OF PROTEIN IN MY DIET, DO I! THANKS FOR LETTING ME KNOW!" The sad thing is is that this happens ALL.THE.TIME. Please STOP being ignorant and treat me like a person. I think i know what I eat and what I don't eat. I think I am very well aware that the Indians have lots of vegetarian dishes. And she just kept saying like, "oh there's this great dish! oh, but im sorry it had (insert animal product here) in it. but it can be made vegan."
next time someone asks me "what made you decide to become vegan?" i am going to answer "what made you decide to eat meat?" how do you like that.
I'm definitely stealing the "What made you decide to eat meat?" line.

Earth Fare is soooo expensive!
It was eight dollars just for my jar of mayo! But the good news is that I picked up that and some dairy free cream cheese. I wish I could have gotten more, because that place is where vegans go when they die. It is SO awesome and the most vegan-friendly place I’ve ever been. Now if they could tone down their prices somewhere below ludicrous, I’d be happy.

echoday asked: The answer field for your fruit question was too short! I wanted to add that you could try growing some of your own fruit, too. Strawberries, tomatoes, and peppers are all easily grown in most areas (great for hanging on porches etc. if space is limited). I know apples last a long time, along with oranges, grapefruit, etc. The fruit with the tougher skin is more hardy. I usually don't buy...

I used to think "unhealthy vegan" was an oxymoron,...
Yesterday was my super unhealthy day. The only things that I had all day was leftover cheeseless pizza and Subway. All that processed bread made me feel like crap-ola, not even the veggies could outweigh all that. Also, I’m curious. I bought all my fruits and veggies all in one place and time, and I ended up throwing almost all of them away after a week or so because of mold. Do you think...

13 Reasons Why We Must Eat Meat.
meaganr: 1. Eating meat is part of nature. We need to do everything the natural way. That’s why we never use modern appliances and computers or never slather chemicals all over our bodies in an indoor waterfall everyday. Besides, eating plant products is ENTIRELY unnatural. 2. Eating meat will make you strong. And that’s why strict vegetarian animals such as pandas, horses, and cows, to name a...

Myth: Vegans (and/or Animal Rights activists) are...
Truth: Vegans are humans and come in all degrees of non-violent and violent tendencies Vegan is not synonymous with violent. We’re not all ALF members. Since veganism fosters a respect for all life (not just animals), it is absurd to come to the conclusion that violence is the only method a vegan would use to affect change. This is also a hypocritical stereotype, in that vegans choose to...

Truth: Vegans easily get enough plant-based calcium in their diets This myth you can pretty much thank the dairy industry for. Thanks to years of dairy-sponsored “health information”, and the blatant lies behind the “Got Milk” ad campaign, people seem to be more convinced than ever that sufficient calcium only comes from cow’s milk. Like protein, it’s almost...
